Artist Research

Dawn Eaton

dawn Eaton is a professional artist and has been for 25 years. She's created numerous commissions including flowers, portraits of people, animals and many more whilst working in various media including acrylic paint and monoprinting. Eaton is inspired by what grows out of the dirt in the garden and in life. I really like the way Eaton creates her pieces, especially the cherry piece as it doesn't look the tidiest piece of work. I did out my try outs with water colour. Firstly, I did an outline then I did each cherry at a time as I was wetting each part of the piece so the different colour's of one of the cherries would merge together and create the same affect that Eaton had made in her piece. Eaton also has a piece called "Sweet n' tart-tomato", and I did a tonal drawing of this piece and I feel like this try out came out really well as the proportions went well and there is a good amount of tone in the drawing as well.

Georgia O'Keeffe

Georgia O'Keeffe was born on the 15th November 1887 in Wisconsin , U.S.A and died on the 6th March 1986 in Santa Fe, Mexico. She was an American painter, best known for she larger- format paintings of natural forms, especially flowers and bones. O'Keeffe has now been recognised as the 'Mother of American modernism'. The painting called " Blue morning glories" was painted in 1935. this painting is an enlargement of the blue morning glory flower. the size of the flower that O'Keeffe depicted is enough to catch the attention, and the way O'Keeffe had used the different shades of blues and purple makes it more enchanting.
This is my try out of O'Keeffe's piece "Blue Morning Glories". I feel like it came out well especially the blending of the main flower. Something I could do better with though is putting more detail into the middle part of the flower. I like O'Keeffe's work as she enlarges the flowers she paints so they are more intriguing to
view.

Susan Bridgewater

Susan Bridgewater is a British artist. She was brought up in an artistic home environment. The subject of her paintings are diverse and often evolve in a celebration of texture and colour, with inspiration often taken from nature. Her work incorporates a wide range of materials presented mainly on a canvas. I like Bridgewater's work as it really stands out from other artist's that I've looked at, due to the bright colour's she uses. I did my tryout on coloured pencil as I felt it would work better and I feel like it came out really good as the colour's blended really well. If I was to do it again I would put the branches in the background of the try out as I was mainly focused on the flower.

Karl Blossfeldt

Karl Blossfeldt was a German photographer, sculptor, teacher and artist who worked in Berlin, Germany. he was born on the 13th June 1865 and died on the 9th December 1932. Blossfeldt is best known for his close up of plants and flowers, published in 1929 as 'Urformen der Kunset' he was inspired, as was his father, by nature and the ways in which plants grow. he believed that " The plant must be valued as a totally artistic and architectural structure. Blossfeldt never received formal training on the subject of photography but apprenticed under Moritz Muerer from1890 to 1896. Blossfeldt developed a series of home-made cameras that allowed him to photograph plant surface in unprecedented magnified detail. this reflected his enduring interest in the repetitive patterns found in natures textures and
 forms.
to create my try out of Karl Blossfeldt, I went
on Photoshop and I then went to the right hand
side of the screen and clicked on the black and
white icon. to make the flower stand out from
the background, I changed the shades of colour's
that appear when you click on black and white. I like the way this came out as you can still see the shades of colour in the flower.

                                                                                                   John Piper

john piper was an English painter, printmaker and designer of stained glass windows and both opera and theatre seats. his work often focused on the British inscapes, especially churches and monuments, including tapestry designs, book jackets, screen prints, photography, fabrics and ceramics. I like pipers work and the way he uses layers to create some of his work.

Faith Bebbington

Faith Bebbington has been a professional artist since 1994. she
is based in Liverpool, U.K. bebbington creates dynamic figurative sculptures which capture movement and can humanise public spaces. after creating "Human figures in actions " for many years, recent public commissions have led her to create life size sculptures of animals due to illness Bebington has moved away from fiberglass resin as her main medium after 15 years. she's now using recycled waste materials mainly for large scale work and modelling with polymer clay for smaller scale works, and exploring sculpting with paper and concrete. faith Bebbington came into school to help us with a piece. during the lesson we helped younger students with the piece to complete it. overall the piece was a success.

My bay work

To start my personal investigation I started off by doing tonal drawings of flowers by using 6B to 4H pencils to get the tones. the first two drawings were drawn by looking at picture of the flowers as they're drawn during lockdown, however the third drawing was drawn with the flower by me. I really like the outcome of the drawings as I feel comfortable drawing with pencil even though I would lighten some of the darker areas on the third drawing as I feel like they're a bit too dark but other than that, I do like them

the next media I tried out was acrylic pain, however I watered it down so it looked like water colour paint. I like the way this piece came out, even though I feel painting white flowers is a bit difficult as you need different shades of grey for the shadows I think all three pieces came out well.

i did this piece when researching Susan Bridgewater. this piece was down in coloured pencil as I felt it would work better and I feel like it came out really good as the colour's blended really well. If I was to do it again I would put the branches in the background of the try out as I was mainly focused on the flower.

To create this piece I used different coloured inks and sprayed them onto the paper by using an ink diffuser. Then I used a drawing pencil to sketch the flower onto the paper and once I was happy with the sketch I then started using the charcoal to draw the flower. I really like this outcome as I like the way the ink stands out in the background.

I started looking at relief work and making my building 3D as I like the way some parts of the building comes out so I was trying to make that become a part of  my work, like in the first and second picture. In the third picture I was trying to use the inks to get the colour of the building however it come out a bit too bright so if I was to to do that again I would darken the ink by putting a bit of black ink into the pot before putting it on the paper.

In this picture I combined both the flowers and the building. I used charcoal to create the building and watercolour to create the flowers. I like this outcome as it beings everything together and it shows where I wanted to take this project which was to show new life coming put of old life.

FINAL PIECE IDEAS AND DEVELOPMENT

FINAL PIECE

For my final piece I painted 2 A2 pieces for grey board in white paint and then mixed different colour inks together to create the colour for the building, then I outlined the building in pencil so I could cut out the windows of the building. after that I started to draw the building onto the grey board with charcoal. I then moved onto the 3 A3 pieces of grey board which I painted white and then outlined then painted the trees with different colours to showing contrast and new life. to put it all together I used Styrofoam and hot glue. I do like the outcome of my final piece as it shows what I wanted to do, when my idea changed during my personal investigation, which was to show new life coming out of an old abandoned building like the bombed out Church.

;Explain the MAIN IDEA(S) for the development of your responses
My main idea for my personal investigation is close up.
I chose this topic because I like looking objects up close to see all the small details
I will be looking at things like buildings, fruit and nature.
During this project I will be looking at many different artists with different styles.
I will also look at photographers and turning their style of photographer into art pieces using different media.
Outline your PLAN(S) for the development of your work
During this project my plan is to explore different media, some that I am comfortable with, e.g. pencil and acrylic paint, and media that I rarely use like charcoal and ink.
Also I will use collages and mixed media.
I will use different media like the ones I’ve mentioned on every artists that I will look at, e.g. Georgia O’Keeffe paints enlarged flowers using oil paints, so I would use oil paint or something close like acrylic paint.
Other media I would use for the try outs would be coloured pencils and coloured pastels.
Describe the CONTEXT (influences, purposes and meanings) of your work
During this project I will look at different this close up such as building, people and nature. I will be looking at different artist and photographers like Georgia O’Keeffe, Ian murphy, Jacky Parker, Darren gentle, Viera Kasmanova, Dawn Eaton and Dennis wojkiewicz.
I will look at these artists as I their technique and the way they use colours to make the piece look eerie or vibrant.
I will use photography as I like the way they use aperture to focus on the subject matter and blurs the background so the subject stands out.
I will use digital imaging to manipulate and intensify my photographs and work as it would allow me to zoom in on areas then I recreate it with various media.
REFLECT on your work critically as it progresses and on its completion
During this project I will expand my range of media to develop my skills that I already have as I mainly use pencil and acrylic paint although I have used a wide variety of media during my first three months on the course.
I would like to develop my skills in print making as it is a good technique as you can blend and add more than one colour onto the piece that you’re creating so I can make editions of work.
